I am a professional cartoonist with an unusual background. I graduated with a BSc in Geology, and an MSc in Oceanography which I combined with IT skills to become a mining software consultant for Rio Tinto. Here I discovered how much I liked working with people, and graduated to a research engineering position with Hewlett Packard, where my main focus was on information management and analysis for Artificial Intelligence. That is, working with people to find out how they structured and used information, and using that to develop expert-like computer systems.
My artistic side wasn't to be denied though, and I grabbed the chance to enrol at art college and do the whole fine art thing. I studied with the best (Peter Reddick), and became a relief printer.
You can't keep a good techie down, and fine art can be a bit lonely (I really do like working with people) so I re-entered the world of IT as a business analyst for number of large businesses and organisations.
Now, art and science, it's all come together - I'm a freelance cartoonist! I have a great time creating funny gags to amuse all kinds of readers, but I can also work with companies and organisation to understand and implement their cartoon and communication requirements.
...and I get to draw fish sometimes.
